Time for Small Tech
At this month’s Unio Global Macro Council, discussion shifted from global topics to focus on Ireland's domestic developments ahead of the budget on October 1st and a likely general election in the coming months.
Ireland's economy is stronger than other European economies however, capacity constraints (housing, infrastructure) could slow growth. Political discourse in Ireland differs from other European countries, with less focus on security and defence.
Ireland benefits from foreign direct investment, particularly from US tech firms, but risks are posed by potential US-EU trade tensions. Focus should be on domestic reforms, reducing business costs, and supporting small tech - tech start-ups - to ensure future economic resilience.
